Start with the window
The ideal pH value is between 7.0 and 7.4. If the pH is outside the recommended range, it can lead to skin and eye irritation as well as damage to built-in parts, and all further maintenance steps are less efficient.

Disinfection
Without a disinfectant, water quickly turns cloudy and swimming is no longer safe. Chlorine is the best known method, with active oxygen and bromine as alternatives.

Algae prevention
Continuous disinfection is not always enough. Algae spreads quickly via spores carried in by the wind and encourages bacteria and fungi, and slippery algae can cause accidents.

Cloudy water happens in every pool at some point. Tiny suspended particles pass through most filters; a flocculant wraps them into flakes the filter can catch.
